距Galway 1000 miles 時,Puma 還是殿後 ( Rudder snipen off )

Crossing the line at 02:31:18 GMT 24/05/09 --Green Dragon 位居第 3 , 也算表現不俗, 特別是回到主場 ( Ireland )

Dagger 損壞 ( Lobster revenge ) 後, 還能差一點就拼到第 2 .

這時就有點搞不太清楚 Telefonica Blue 與 Telefonica Black 到底發生了什麼事, 本來一開始都還領先 !

Galway, Ireland 在望.

Leg 7 一開始, Ericsson 4 就認知無法在 Scoring Gate 取得 #1 or #2 , 反而全力在後半段追趕; 並做了重大決定--- 脫離主集團往北 , 搶先抓到鋒面優勢, 雖然事後証明是成功的 ; 但當時一定是艱苦的航程.

6d20hr --- 這時,大家都退出 StealthPlay 模式, 似乎也沒有真的都匿蹤到 24hrs, 看起來也沒有什麼偉大的戰術; 還是純粹虛晃一招 ?

Ericsson 4 領先的態勢應該不會變 ; GreenDragon 與 Puma 爭第二 ...

還有不到 300 miles 就到 Galway .

6d10hr -- 這是怎樣 ? 除了 Ericsson 3 跟 Telefonica Black 外, 都進入 Stealth Play 狀態.

Puma 的Media Crew 發e-mail, 叫大家(觀眾)今晚去睡個好覺,不需要每隔3小時就上網來Check 船隊最新位置;

因為自 Ericsson 3 最早進入StealthPlay 後, 他預言緊接著整個船隊都進入StealthPlay (本次 VOR 08/09 賽中,第一次這種情形; 不過看來也是因為 Stealth Play 也是VOR 08/09 首度新增的戰術選項.)

StealthPlay 定義

A new tactical initiative for the 2008-09 race, gives the crews one opportunity on each of the longer legs to have their location hidden from position reports and the public for 24 hours (increased from 12 hours from Leg 5 onwards).

In order to deploy a StealthPlay, a team must call Race Headquarters within 30 minutes of the position report being released. The play will last for the next 12 hours and the boat’s position will not be shown on the three scheduled reports normally released within that period. The boat will become visible again at the next position report after that period.

Race HQ will continue to monitor each boat’s progress every 15 minutes for safety reasons, but this information is not made public until the StealthPlay is over.

Position reporting times will be every three hours at 1000, 1300, 1600, 1900, 2200.

6d2hr -- 前一刻還只有 Ericsson 3 進入 SP (Stealth Play ) , 現在更是連領先的 Ericsson 4 與 Puma 都也進入 Stealth Play! 就等他們自 SP 退出時, 會變成什麼狀況 ?

5d22r -- 兩個集團的態勢沒變 ( 也沒那麼容易變, 畢竟各自為首的 Ericsson 4 與 Telefonica Blue 也相距 100 miles 以上)

不過這時以Telefonica Blue 為首的集團, 航向也改為稍北 , 變成與北邊的集團都是 heading ~ 42 度 .

可以想像Ericsson 4 當初在做 "Technical Stealth" ( 技術性匿蹤)時 , 可能刻意往北趕上北邊的Cold front 強風區 ( 35 knots 以上 ) , 而把南邊集團留在雖然較接主航線與Calway 的弱風區 (~ 25 knots ) ;

Ericsson 4 藝高膽大, 一直把航速拉在 24 knots; 但往北繞大圈 ,直搗鋒面 ( Cold front ), 航程應該會較艱辛.

Green Dragon ( 撞到龍蝦籠) , Ericsson 3 ( 撞鯨群 ) 緊跟在 Ericsson 4 後面, 看來也追趕回來不少!

Puma 回首望 Telefonica Black

南邊集團的Puma , 也把被沖掉的Rudder , 重新換上新的Rudder ; 現在至少還在Telefonica Black 前面.

鹿死誰手, 還不知 ! 這時應該只剩下不到 1/4 的航程.

Ericsson 4 全速前進 ..

加入北集團的下場 --- 北大西洋 50 knots 陣風的 Ericsson 3 onboard

5D1hr -- 已經通過冰山禁航區 , 告別鐵達尼號沉沒的地點; 明顯地速度都變快, 這時後 Ericsson 4 已經跑到 24.5 knot 了 !

同時分成兩集團 : Heading 36度 --- Ericsson 4 , Green Dragon ; Heading 61度--- Puma , Telefonica Blue/Black , Delta Loylld ....

從這2D Race Viewer 來看, Delta Loylld 反而是居於領先 ?

Telefonica blue 在惡劣的氣候下 ..

回到Orthodromy 大圈航行 ...

先前是 lobster pod , 現在Ericssion 3 又閃躲鯨群不及 , 導致 Keel /DaggerBoard 嚴重受損 , 現在變成殿後. (橘色那艘)

Daggerboard: Raised directly up and down. Volvo Open 70s have one or two daggerboards forward of the mast which supply lateral resistance – to stop the boat slipping sideways under the force of the sails, when the canting keel is swung out to the side to keep the boat upright

競賽時熱血沸騰, 高速痛快; 但艙內應該沒一頓吃得好. (Puma )

2D17hr40mins -- 真的在禁航區前, 戲劇性地向南 (東) 轉.

似乎是在大圈航行下,最快到達 Scoring gate 的方法 .

紅線 Orthodromy 就已經是大圈航行航線.

Green Dragon 上觀測對手活動

1d15hr - 這還真有點看不懂---- 整個 Fleet (7 艘) 都往Ice ExclusionZone 開過去, 還是因為"地球是圓"的 ???

Green Dragon (Ireland + China ) team 一路落後, 但在各式各樣畫面都很搶鏡頭; 連這種3D模擬劃面, 也不例行 .

這時候整個船隊都在躲"龍蝦籠" (lobster pod ) -- 看過 Discovery的, 就知道那是什麼 !

Telefonica Blue 跟 Green Dragon 分別被龍蝦籠擊中 Daggle board .....

倒是領先的 PUMA ,未傳出災情. ( 真不愧是以 Boston 為 HQ 的主場優勢者 )
